Welcome to the Devarajan Lab in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Stony Brook Medicine!

We are a passionate team of researchers delving into the mysteries of immune defenses, specifically those that offer the most robust protection in the lung & nose against respiratory infections. Here are some intriguing questions that drive our curiosity

What if having powerful immune responses in your nose made you less vulnerable to severe cases of influenza or COVID-19? (Could this insight lead to the development of superior vaccines that not only reduce illness severity but also curb virus transmission?)

Where do immune responses in the lung and nose originate from? (We could design vaccines that induce progenitor cells responsible for strong nasal/lung immunity!)

Immune responses decline with age, what if we shifted our focus to understanding what remains effective in the elderly? (Could this knowledge enable us to better protect the most susceptible among us from respiratory diseases?)

In our lab, we strive to put the people first. We are deeply committed to the training and development of scientists while pursuing brilliant science. Kindness and compassion drive our mentorship and communication styles. We recognize that there are diverse thought-processes, and personalities that succeed using diverse methods. Therefore, we tailor training and projects to ensure that everyone achieves success as a scientist while finding joy in their scientific pursuits. We work towards each scientist in the lab having a fulfilling career aligned with their individual aspirations.
